Torno subito – ladies night in Dubai!

Recently, my friends and I ventured to Torno Subito’s ‘Ciao Belle Night,’ a promise of the ultimate ladies’ evening with endless pizza, pasta, and prosecco. Situated in the W Hotel on the Palm, Torno Subito boasts a Michelin-starred Italian dining experience. With a price tag of only 199 AED each, it sounded like a win-win!

Entering the restaurant is really quite fun, vibrant coloured with bold black lines. Quirky details all around, creating a relaxed atmosphere that’s far from posh and stuffy.

Seaside Views

Step outside, and bam! The seaside views from the bright and funky seating were simply stunning. It definitely felt like a relaxed dining spot.

Pizza e Pasta Party

Now, onto the carb overload! So, the waiter arrives with a fairly big menu, and we’re expecting to choose from it. Nope! They bring the entire menu to share at the table – a pizza and pasta lover’s dream come true! Pizzas with simple toppings that just worked, and the pastas, risotto, and gnocchi? Absolutely delicious. We feasted like there was no tomorrow, and trust me, there were plenty of leftovers for days!

The drinks went down well too; the peach and prosecco was surprisingly easy to drink, not too sweet, so we ordered quite a few of those! A slight negative was that the service wasn’t very attentive with the drinks, but we made ourselves seen, haha.

Sweet Endings

For dessert, out came impressive Tiramisubito, a Torno Subito twist on tiramisu. It was most definitely an Instagram-worthy moment as we cracked through the coffee top. While not the best tiramisu I’ve ever had, it was undeniably tasty.

Would I recommend it?

Absolutely, but let’s keep it real. Despite the Michelin recommendation, it’s more of a regular dining spot than a fine dining experience. Good food, chill vibes, and service that’s just okay. Set your expectations for a relaxed dining spot, with comfort-level food, and you’ll be pleased.

We enjoyed a delightful feast, everything was on point, and even with a few waiter waves, the AED 199 price tag felt fair. The place is stunning and I had a fun night out with the girls!

Dubai’s Best Outdoor Cinema: VOX Moonlight!

Come along with me as I share the most perfect date night my husband and I had at Vox Moonlight, a wonderful outdoor cinema nestled on the rooftop of the Galleria Mall in Dubai. With its luxurious seating and charming boutique setup, it was a movie night we’ll never forget. Ready to hear more? Keep reading.

Booking

Booking online was a breeze. I opted for the cabana, priced at 240 AED for two – the most luxurious option available. If you’re watching your wallet, there are cheaper options starting at 55 AED per person.

Cabana Comfort

Wrapped up warmly in those cosy blankets (included in all seating options) on a chilly evening, our spacious and comfortable cabana provided a perfect retreat. I had no regrets about the splurge; it was worth every penny.

Screen, Sound, and Scenery

The screen size was just right, and the sound quality was excellent too.

Seating Options

When it comes to seating options, you have plenty to choose from. First off, the luxurious private cabanas, priced at 240 AED for two people, like the one we chose, offer unmatched comfort. On the other hand, the cosy loungers, at 120 AED for two people, create a laid-back vibe perfect for a chill night out. But if you’re watching your budget, bean bags with a footrest are a steal at only 55 AED per person. As shown in the photo, these bean bags offer comfort without compromise. Whatever your preference, you’re guaranteed a snug setup for enjoying a movie under the moonlit night sky.

When it comes to the menu, there’s something for everyone, ranging from mocktails to sushi, burgers, and hotdogs. Moreover, the best part is that you can order it all with a quick scan of a QR code without even getting up from your seat. While we opted for popcorn, I can’t personally vouch for the other options. Nevertheless, judging by what others ordered, the food looked pretty tempting.

As the movie credits rolled and the night drew to an end, Vox Moonlight left us with a fantastic memory of chilling out under the stars. Dubai Ramadan 2024: Where to Catch the Cannon Show!

Step into Ramadan in Dubai! As Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during this Holy Month, the city lights up with a unique tradition – the cannon show. Each evening, the cannons boom, signaling the start of the feast (Iftar). It’s like Dubai shouting, ‘Dinner’s ready, folks!’ Intrigued? Read on!

Boom! Dinner Time

As the sun descends, the cannons take centre stage for the midfa al iftar tradition. This unique evening performance is carried out by the police, who roll out the big guns. It’s not your typical dinner bell, but it sure gets the job done!

Why Cannons?

In the old days, Egyptians initiated the cannon trend to signal dinner. In the 1960s, Dubai adopted it when mosques lacked the megaphones we have today. The cannons, vintage British models from 1945, became the city’s timekeeper.

Each cannon is fired twice in a row to declare the start of Ramadan, once daily for Iftar, twice successively for Eid, and again twice in the morning after Eid prayers.

Mixing Old and New

Fast forward to the present, and the cannons still echo. It’s like Dubai saying, “We respect our history, but we’re also vibing with the present.” The cannons create a unique Ramadan ambiance, blending tradition and modernity. Even if you’re not Muslim or fasting, it’s a pretty cool thing to witness.

Want to see the cannons in action? I certainly do! Then head over to one of the following locations.

Expo City Dubai: The main event takes place at Al Wasl Avenue.
Damac Hills: The exact location is yet to be announced.
Vida Creek Harbour: A newcomer to the tradition; the exact spot is still to be determined.
Burj Khalifa: A classic spot; it’s advisable to arrive early for the best view.
Mirdif Downtown: Location details are pending updates, so keep an eye out.
Dubai Festival City Mall: Anticipate large crowds.
Hatta Guest House: A hidden gem approximately 1.5 hours away from Dubai.

Many upscale restaurants, such as Sushisamba, provide these deals, giving you the chance to enjoy a luxurious dining experience without breaking the bank.

At just 169 AED, the Business Lunch at Sushisamba is a real steal. Available Monday to Friday from 12 – 3 pm, it’s an unbeatable deal for an amazing dining experience

2 Starters – 16 Options!

The meal kicks off with a complimentary bowl of heavenly Miso soup, and then, you get to choose two starters each! from a selection of 16 options. While not every option is a knockout, this time, our top picks were the Bahia Samba roll and the Angus beef tenderloin.

Main Course

Moving on to the main course, you get to choose one each – we ordered the Black Cod and Australian Angus Tenderloin 100g with Foie Gras. Trust me; the Black Cod is insanely good, the best we’ve had anywhere. It’s become a firm favourite for both my husband and me, and the beef? Sensational. Portions are generous; trust me, the mains alone are worth the visit!

Window Seat

This place is all about the fantastic views – it feels like hitting the jackpot if you land a window seat. We’ve been lucky every time, but even if you can’t secure one, don’t worry, the tall ceilings and big windows ensure everyone gets to enjoy the view.
