Welcome to week 3, of our Roast Challenge! If you haven’t caught up yet, check out Top Golf Roast and The Guild Roast Review.
This week, we headed to The Palm and visited Bread Street Kitchen, a Gordon Ramsay restaurant located at The Atlantis Hotel. The place has a casual vibe with quirky features like an old English red telephone box and a cool outdoor area that’s perfect for winter. We arrived at 3 pm to find it buzzing with families enjoying Sunday lunch, accompanied by live music—a nice touch! Plus, they offer free valet parking. Fancy that!
I always had an aunt who piled my plate so high it looked like a mountain, so I find it a bit off-putting when there is too much food on my plate. Maybe it’s that old voice in my head saying, “Finish your plate!” So, when our meals arrived, I was quite disappointed to see this towering mountain of food on my plate. I even had to excavate some potatoes just to find my roast! There was a hefty portion of beef (not complaining), alongside gigantic roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding, all stacked on a bed of carrots and white cabbage. It was a bit of a juggling act to eat, honestly. Next time, I think they should consider plating some items separately—especially those colossal potatoes—they took up most of my plate!
Onto the flavours: the beef was soft, juicy, and well-cooked but lacked a bit in flavour. We’ve had better recently. The lamb, however, was a different story; it was incredible the taste, texture, and flavour were faultless. The gravy was spot-on and there was plenty of it—always a bonus. The beef came with horseradish sauce, creamy with just the right kick. The lamb arrived solo; it should have come with mint sauce, but maybe the mint went on holiday. Hubby dislikes mint sauce, so no complaints from him, but I would have enjoyed it.
The roast potatoes were, as I mentioned, huge. I would have preferred smaller ones, but they were nicely crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, so I’ll give them a pass. The Yorkshire pudding was massive, crispy, and a bit dry for me. I’ve had much better, but it was still enjoyable. The veg, however, was lovely. The cauliflower cheese was spot-on and nicely presented on a separate dish at the table. The carrots were sweet and soft, and the white cabbage was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Well done on the veg!
Overall, it was a good roast dinner. We are, of course, being highly critical because of the challenge, so we are over-emphasizing things that were not quite up to par, but you will not be disappointed. It deserves to be rated as one of the best in Dubai. Unfortunately, based on our personal preferences, it is not ‘The Best’.
Ratings
It was one of the most expensive roasts we’ve tried in Dubai, but that can be forgiven given the prime location, the Gordon Ramsay name tag, and the complimentary trifle at the end. All those things softened the blow of the bill. A free pudding makes everything better, doesn’t it?
We booked our reservation quickly and easily online through the Bread Street Kitchen website.
