The Guild Roast Review
It’s week 2 of the 8-week roast challenge. If you missed week 1, check out our Top Golf Sunday Roast Review here. This week, we ventured out to DIFC to try The Guild, a roast dinner that keeps coming up in conversations as one of the best in Dubai. Naturally, we had to try it.
First Impressions
First impressions of The Guild were incredibly good. It’s a very stylish restaurant with lush greenery, done in the most tasteful way, and the place oozed upscale vibes. The staff were friendly, and the place was fully booked. The music was perfect, and you instantly felt relaxed when sat down. Beautiful white tablecloths and monogrammed napkins added a touch of elegance. The restaurant had chefs assembling the roasts in full view, which was a nice touch.
Ordering
The options were beef, chicken, lamb shoulder, seabass, and roasted eggplant, with prices starting at 125 AED. You could also opt for the 3-course offer for 250 AED. We opted for one course and chose the beef, cooked medium as recommended. There was also a 2-hour drinks package available, but we stuck to soft drinks – maybe next time…
Taste Test
The roast arrived with two large slices of beef, a Yorkshire pudding, French green beans, and a roasted onion. The sides included roast potatoes, roasted carrots, parsnips in a pumpkin sauce, cauliflower cheese, peas, and a small boat of gravy. No complaints on the variety of sides!
The beef was delicious, soft, and full of flavour. The cauliflower cheese was extremely good, not too strong in cheese flavour but delightful. The roast potatoes were absolute perfection – crispy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. Well done!
A few personal dislikes: the peas were slightly under cooked for me, too hard and lacking the sweet pea flavour. But it was nice to see peas as an option, which I haven’t seen on many roasts, so well done for being original. The gravy was super stingy – a tiny boat. The waiter kept referring to it as beef jus, so maybe it wasn’t meant to be gravy as I know it! I like plenty of gravy, so I asked for more. The flavour was amazing but it was way too rich, so maybe that’s why they served small amounts.
The carrots and parsnips were delicious, but the pumpkin sauce added unnecessary sweetness. It’s a personal preference, so I won’t mark the roast down for this. The Yorkshire pudding was perfect. Highlights included the meat, roast potatoes, and the cauliflower cheese.
