Staycation Review: Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi

Every year for my husband’s birthday, I book a fancy staycation. This year, I whittled it down to the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal, pairing it with a day trip around Abu Dhabi, and let’s just say… it earned the official husband seal of approval.

For me, a staycation needs wow-factor views, great food and cocktails, a proper pool setup, and a bed so big and cosy it feels like you’ve been wrapped in a giant fluffy cloud. Bonus points for great service.

The Hotel First Impressions

The Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi is one of those hotels that makes an entrance.

The lobby

The lobby is grand and incredibly elegant. And of course, it has something unique and special, an uninterrupted view of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque right across the road!

The Grand Mosque

I genuinely don’t think I could ever get bored of that view.

Room with a view, of course!

I booked a Club Suite, mostly because club access kept coming up in TripAdvisor reviews as a “must book, if you can,” and it was the same price as the half-board options. So, I took a gamble based on the reviews.

And honestly? It was the best decision.

Our Suite

Our suite was huge. Separate lounge and bedroom. Balcony overlooking the mosque. Spotless. Tasteful. And the bed? So comfortable it should probably come with an alarm clock.

The Club Lounge at Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi, Is It Worth It?

This is where the hotel really shines.

I’ve read people call this the best club lounge in the world. Bold claim, right? But after staying… I get it.

The lounge is massive and flooded with natural light, overlooking the canal. It’s stunning at breakfast with all that light, and just as impressive after dark. Our server mentioned it was stunning at sunrise… partly because that’s when the Rose‑ringed (Indian Ringneck) Parakeets (they look like parrots) gather, calling and flying in flocks. But she lost us at sunrise, haha, we struggle to make breakfast most days! You could easily spend the whole day here… and with all the food and drinks on offer, it’s hard not to, though, of course, we did leave occasionally, haha.

The Club Lounge

Here’s how it works:

  • Breakfast buffet with live cooking station.

  • Light lunch-style bites

  • Afternoon treats

  • Evening hot food buffet (changes daily)

  • Unlimited drinks until 11pm

And when I say unlimited drinks, naturally we heard unlimited cocktails.

Strictly for research purposes, of course, we tested as many as we could. I’m pleased to report the cocktails were truly unlimited, delicious, and the service was just as impressive.

Drinks in the lounge

Service was seamless. Friendly without hovering. Glasses never empty. Plates cleared discreetly.

Honestly, booking the Club Room is worth it for the lounge alone. It completely changes the stay. Calm, relaxed, and far nicer (in my opinion) than queuing in a busy buffet restaurant.

The Pool at Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi

Apparently, this is the largest hotel pool in Abu Dhabi.

The pool area is spacious with plenty of sunbeds.

Relaxed vibe, attentive service, complimentary water and even ice lollies being handed out, which was a nice touch. There’s also a small beach area if you want a change from the pool.

Simple, easy, and exactly what you want from a staycation pool day.

Dining at Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi

Even though the Club Lounge food was more than enough, we decided to go out for dinner at Punjab Grill inside the hotel.

We’d tried their business lunch in Dubai a few weeks prior and loved it, so expectations were high.

And thankfully, it did not let us down.

The poppadoms were an event in themselves; it was like a mini buffet!

Overall the meal offered big flavours. Generous portions. Fluffy naans. Properly spicy dishes (which we appreciate). It felt like a treat rather than typical “hotel food,” if you know what I mean.

One thing I will say about the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi, you don’t feel trapped into eating mediocre food just because you’re staying there. The dining options are pretty good, including Li Jiang (Southeast Asian) and Mijana (Lebanese), both of which have been recognized by the MICHELIN Guide.

The location is ideal.

You’re about 5 minutes drive from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and roughly 20 minutes into the city. So you feel tucked away and peaceful, but not isolated.

For a staycation, that balance is perfect.

Did It tick all our boxes?

Here’s the thing…

Sometimes luxury hotels look great online but feel slightly underwhelming in person.

That was not the case with the Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi.

The room was excellent.
The Club Lounge genuinely impressed us.
The pool was beautiful.
The service was consistent and polished.

Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt chaotic. It felt like a proper switch-off break.

Would I book again?

Absolutely.

This passed our annual “birthday staycation test” with flying colours, and trust me, that’s saying something. I booked on booking.com but you can also book directly here – Ritz Carlton Grand Canal
