I recently went to The Cheeky Camel in JLT for their Friday night ladies’ night deal. I’m part of a book club where we take turns picking venues, and let’s just say—this was not my pick. When the WhatsApp message popped up saying the deal was AED 109 for 3 hour free-flow drinks and two courses, I genuinely thought it was a typo! A quick Google search confirmed otherwise, but the reviews weren’t exactly glowing… so I managed my expectations. I figured two glasses of wine would cover the cost, and anything more was a bonus!
If you’ve ever tried to navigate JLT, you’ll know it’s a labyrinth of identical buildings where even Google Maps gets lost. But surprisingly, finding The Cheeky Camel was easy—it’s on the car park level inside the Voco Bonnington Hotel, right next to McGettigan’s.
I walked in expecting no-frills budget vibes, but instead, I was met with a fun, playful interior—think brightly coloured, mismatched walls and funky furniture. It felt like someone had gone a little wild on their Pinterest mood board (in a good way). I was already warming up to the place!
The deal runs from 3 PM to 10 PM, and you get a three-hour slot that starts the moment you order. Wondering how they keep track of time? You’re given a wristband with your designated time on it—so they know exactly when to cut you off!
The drinks selection was shockingly good for the price: wine, bottled beer, four spirits, and two cocktails. We all went for the Sauvignon Blanc, except for one rebel who had the rosé. And honestly? The wine was surprisingly decent.
Service was top-notch—we always had two glasses in front of us, so running dry was never an issue. The glassware was a quirky touch—large vintage orange tumblers that looked like they came straight from your grandma’s cupboard, and they were oddly charming, perfectly matching the Cheeky Camel vibe.
The deal includes two courses—a main and dessert. I ordered the sliders, which were tasty but tiny (think glorified canapé rather than a full meal).
Most of the mains were on the smaller side, except for the flatbread—it was a decent portion and definitely the best choice if you’re hungry. One of my friends, a vegetarian, asked for it without chicken, and they accommodated the request without any fuss.
Dessert, on the other hand, was a win—beautifully presented, delicious, and no complaints about portion size.
For AED 109, you’d struggle to find a better deal—especially on a Friday night. The drinks were generous, the food was decent (if you order wisely), and the vibe was fun and relaxed. All the girls loved it, and we’ve officially added it to our budget-friendly weekend rotation.
Would I go again? Absolutely. Would I order the sliders again? Nope, flatbread all the way.
So, if you’re looking for a cheeky night out that won’t break the bank, this one’s worth checking out!
