We all know Dubai traffic can get a bit wild, but did you know breaking the rules could cost you a pretty penny—or two? To make things easier for you (and maybe a tad more entertaining), we’ve rounded up a list of some traffic fines—including a few surprising ones—you’ll want to avoid.
Dubai’s black points system tracks your driving habits—kind of like a report card. With cameras and radars everywhere, every violation earns you black points, and you’ll get a text (not the good kind) when they’re added. You can check your score on the Dubai Police website.
Hit 24 points? You could lose your licence, get banned for a year, or even have your car impounded. Drive smart and avoid those points!
In a city with roads as smooth as the skyline and Lambos zooming by, it’s easy to feel the need for speed. But don’t be fooled—Dubai takes speeding seriously, and those fines can hit hard!
Bonus Tip: The speed limit in Abu Dhabi is 140 km/h, while in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, it’s 120 km/h, however all Emirates except Abu Dhabi have a 20 km/h speed buffer, allowing drivers to exceed the limit by 20km/h without fines.
Bottom line: Always stick to the official speed limit. Dubai’s radars are always watching.
It might seem tempting to sneak through a red light, but in Dubai, the consequences are steep.
So, before you think about rushing through that amber light!
Dubai takes dangerous and aggressive driving seriously, and the penalties can be severe:
Heavy vehicles, like trucks or construction vehicles, are under even stricter scrutiny.
Even something as simple as leaking or spilling your load can earn you Dh3,000 and 12 black points.
Even if you’re a careful driver, it’s easy to forget some of the more minor rules that could cost you:
These fines may seem small, but they can add up quickly, especially if you’re caught multiple times.
Want to avoid going broke? Then definitely steer clear of these traffic violations!
One thing you’ll quickly learn about driving in Dubai: cameras are everywhere. From speed cameras along highways to hidden ones at traffic lights, the city is always watching. In fact, Dubai’s traffic monitoring system is one of the most advanced in the world, cameras so sophisticated that they claim to even be able to see through tinted windows. So, you can’t afford to break the rules.
Break a rule on the road in Dubai? Expect a text message like the one above from Dubai Police shortly after – they’re quick like that. But if you’re curious (or nervous), you can also check for fines on the RTA website. Just fill in a simple form, and voilà, you’ll know where you stand.
Miss the deadline to pay your fines? That could end up costing you more! But don’t worry—Dubai makes it easy to settle your fines through the RTA website, Dubai Police website, or apps like the Dubai Police App and RTA App. And if cash is tight, no problem! You can opt for interest-free instalment plans with banks like Emirates NBD, ADCB, and Dubai Islamic Bank. Just remember to pay on time to avoid those pesky extra charges!
Dubai’s roads are smooth, but the fines are steep! Speeding, running red lights, or using your phone can hit you with hefty fines and black points. Keep it safe, follow the rules, and avoid the drama. Paying fines is easy, but it’s better to not have to. So, stay sharp on the road and keep your wallet happy!
